fishing_boatHave you been battered by the storms of life that come suddenly upon you without warning? The disciples of Jesus were once in that situation. One evening, the Teacher and his disciples crossed over the Sea of Galilee in a little boat. But a great windstorm arose and waves crashed into their vessel and began to fill it with water.

Amazingly, Jesus was in the stern of the boat sleeping on a pillow while all this was taking place! It seems the disciples thought Jesus didn’t care about what was going on, so they woke him up. Jesus pulled himself out of an apparently restful sleep and commanded the wind and the sea to be quiet, “…’Peace, be still!’” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Jesus then turned to his disciples and asked them why they were afraid. “How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:39,40).

Do you ever feel like you are going under for the third time and God is off sleeping somewhere? Perhaps it is problems at home that drain your energy to the point of exhaustion. Or, maybe it’s job pressure that never seems to let up. No matter how hard you work, you just can’t seem to get a handle on all that’s expected of you. Or, perhaps it is a financial crisis that threatens to capsize your boat.

Whatever the nature of the storm, rest assured that God has it under control. Just because you haven’t heard from the Almighty lately, doesn’t mean God’s not aware of your situation, or doesn’t care. On the contrary, our Creator cares very deeply for each one of us, and the difficulties we face day by day. Even though the Lord has an entire universe to manage your personal struggles do matter. God is the Master multitasker. Be assured, He won’t let your problems “fall through the cracks” without taking notice.
